How does Pengo decide which visitors have high intent?
With simple, explainable signals rather than an opaque score. A visitor gets a signal for being on a buying page (pricing, checkout, cart, demo, contact or sign-up), for returning to your site, for viewing five or more pages, and for staying engaged three minutes or longer. The radar sorts by those signals and shows each one, so you always know why someone is at the top.
Can I start a conversation with a visitor who has not messaged us?
Yes. Pick any visitor on the radar and start a chat. Your message appears in their widget and the conversation lands in your shared inbox with their journey attached.
Will proactive messages annoy my visitors?
They do not have to. Every trigger has a frequency cap (once per visitor, once per session, once a day or every page view), can be limited to specific pages and audiences, and can stay quiet while no agent is online. AI struggle outreach has its own cooldown per visitor.
How does identity verification work?
Your server signs the logged-in user’s ID with a secret using HMAC-SHA256 and passes that hash to the widget with identify. Pengo checks the signature, marks the visitor as verified and links their conversations. Without a valid hash, nobody can impersonate a customer by guessing an email address.

How is visitor data protected?
Visitor data lives in your workspace behind Postgres row-level security, and realtime channels use signed, short-lived visitor tokens. You can export or erase a visitor’s data on request and set retention controls. More on the security page.
