Connect your own Stripe account, the one you bill your customers with, and Pengo Actions can help customers with billing questions and changes. Your team also sees the customer’s Stripe billing next to the chat.

#Connect Stripe

  1. Go to Settings Integrations Stripe and choose your website.

  2. Click Connect with Stripe and approve the connection in Stripe.

Or use a restricted key instead:

  1. In Stripe, go to Developers › API keys › Create restricted key. Allow Customers (read), Subscriptions (write), Invoices (write) and Payment methods (read).

  2. Paste the key, which starts with rk_, into the Stripe page in Pengo and click Save key.

The page shows Connected, the account name, and whether it’s connected through Stripe Connect or with a restricted key. A test-mode key shows (test mode).

Change each one's mode in Intelligence › Actions. Every detail, including who each action is for, is in the Stripe actions reference.

Every Stripe action is for verified customers only. Cancellations take effect at the end of the billing period.

#Stripe in the inbox

When the visitor’s email matches a Stripe customer, the conversation’s details panel shows a Stripe section with their subscriptions and status, renewal dates and any failed payments, with a link to the customer in Stripe.

#Disconnect Stripe

Click Disconnect and confirm. Pengo Intelligence stops looking up billing and making subscription changes for this website. If the page says Stripe was disconnected from your Stripe dashboard, connect it again to keep billing help working.

Common questions

Will Pengo Intelligence cancel a subscription on its own?

Not by default. Skipping, pausing, resuming, cancelling and retrying payments wait for a teammate's approval unless you change it in Intelligence › Actions.

Which permissions does a restricted key need?

Customers (read), Subscriptions (write), Invoices (write) and Payment methods (read).
