Control where the widget shows and remove branding

Hide the widget on phones, show it only on certain pages, hide it while you're offline or from your own code, and remove the Powered by Pengo badge.

On this page

By default the launcher shows on every page of your website. You can hide it on phones, limit it to certain pages, hide it while nobody can answer, or control it from your own code. You can also remove the “Powered by Pengo” badge, depending on your plan.

#Hide the widget on phones

  1. Go to Settings Chat widget Style and scroll to Placement.

  2. Turn on Hide on phones.

  3. Click Save changes at the top of the page.

Visitors on small screens no longer see the launcher. That covers screens up to 480 pixels wide, and screens up to 500 pixels tall, such as phones held sideways. The chat still opens from pengo('open'), so you can link to it from your own button.

#Show the widget on certain pages only

Under Placement, add rules to Show on these pages only. Leave it empty to show the launcher everywhere.

RuleMatches
/pricingOnly the pricing page. A trailing slash doesn’t matter.
/blog/*Every page whose path starts with /blog/.
https://example.com/contactYou can paste a full address. Pengo uses its path, /contact.
*Every page.

Rules must start with / or be a full address, and you can add up to 20. On other pages the launcher is hidden, but if a visitor already has the chat open, it stays open.

The popup, auto-open and chat triggers have their own page targeting. See Proactive messages and auto-open.

#Hide the widget while you’re offline

Go to Settings Chat widget Forms , choose Offline, and pick Hide widget. The launcher disappears while nobody on your team is available and comes back as soon as someone is. Visitors who are mid-conversation keep the widget so they can finish.

If Pengo Intelligence is answering chats, the widget stays visible, because there’s someone to answer. More in Pre-chat, offline and rating forms.

#Hide and show from your code

Use the JavaScript API to control the launcher on any page:

JavaScript
// Hide the launcher, for example during checkout
pengo('hide');

// Bring it back
pengo('show');

// Open the chat from your own button, even when the launcher is hidden
pengo('open');

pengo('hide') hides the launcher but never closes a chat the visitor has open. See the JavaScript API for every command.

#Remove “Powered by Pengo”

The widget shows a small “Powered by Pengo” attribution in its footer. Whether you can turn it off depends on your plan:

PlanPowered by Pengo
FreeAlways shown
Starter, TeamRemovable with the Remove Pengo branding add-on: $19/mo, or $15/mo billed annually
Business, Plus, EnterpriseIncluded. Turn it off whenever you like.

#Turn it off

  1. On Starter or Team, open Billing from your account menu and turn on Remove Pengo branding under Add-ons. Skip this step on Business and up.

  2. Go to Settings Chat widget Home screen and scroll to Branding.

  3. Turn off Powered by Pengo.

  4. Click Save changes at the top of the page.

If your plan doesn’t include it, the Powered by Pengo switch is locked on, with a note pointing you to the add-on. See Plans and limits to compare plans.

Common questions

Which plans can remove Powered by Pengo?

Business, Plus and Enterprise include it. On Starter and Team you can add the Remove Pengo branding add-on for $19 a month, or $15 a month billed annually. On Free the badge is always shown.

If I hide the widget on phones, can visitors still chat?

The launcher is hidden on small screens, but your site can still open the chat with pengo('open'), for example from a Contact us button.

Does pengo('hide') close an open chat?

No. It hides the launcher, but a chat that's already open stays open until the visitor closes it.
