Connect Zapier, Make or n8n
Send new chats, messages, ratings and resolutions from Pengo to Zapier, Make or n8n with a webhook, then automate whatever comes next.
Zapier, Make and n8n can all start an automation when they receive a web request. Pengo sends one every time something happens in a chat, so you can, for example, add new chats to a spreadsheet or post ratings to your team’s tool.
#Get a catch URL
First, create the automation and copy the URL it listens on.
| Tool | Where to find the URL |
|---|---|
| Zapier | Create a Zap with Webhooks by Zapier as the trigger and Catch Hook as the event. Zapier shows the webhook URL. |
| Make | Start a scenario with the Webhooks module and a Custom webhook. Make shows the address. |
| n8n | Add a Webhook node set to the POST method. Use its production URL once the workflow is active. |
#Add the webhook in Pengo
-
Go to Settings Integrations Webhooks and choose your website.
-
Click Add webhook and paste the URL into Webhook URL.
-
Under Events to send, pick the events that should start your automation, such as Chat created or Chat rated.
-
Click Create webhook. Pengo saves it, and the page header shows Saved.
-
Click Test on the webhook. Pengo sends a test ping and shows whether your tool received it.
To give your tool a real example to map fields from, start a chat on your website in a private window and send a message. Then pick that request in Zapier, Make or n8n.
#What your automation receives
Every event arrives as JSON with the event name, a timestamp, your website ID and a data object, for example the chat ID and the visitor’s email and name for Chat created. The full list of events and fields is in Webhooks.
Replies your team sends from the inbox and replies from Pengo Intelligence don’t send a Message sent event. Use Chat created, Chat resolved or Chat rated to follow a conversation from start to finish.
Common questions
Is there a Pengo app to install in Zapier?
You don't need one. Pengo connects to Zapier, Make and n8n with a webhook, using the catch URL each tool gives you.
Which events can trigger my automation?
Chat created, Message sent, Chat resolved, Chat closed, AI resolved, Chat rated, Chat assigned and Status changed. Pick any of them for each webhook.
Can one website send events to several tools?
Yes. Create one webhook per tool, each with its own URL and events.
